Eastern Michigan University announced the hiring of Josh Brewer as the new head coach of the women's golf program on May 29.
Brewer brings 12 seasons of Division I head coaching experience and arrives from the University of Georgia, where he led the team to 16 tournament wins, including three NCAA Regional Championships in 2016, 2021, and 2023.
Brewer's hire is part of a significant program expansion, made possible by a $6.5 million commitment from GameAbove. This brings their total contribution to over $14.5 million, marking the largest single-donor support in the history of EMU sports.
“Why not Eastern? We will support the program, and it’s an amazing challenge when you’re surrounded by people who believe it can be done,” Brewer said in an interview with EMU Athletics. “I love it. It’s an underdog mentality, but at the same time, why not Eastern?’
Under Brewer's leadership, the University of Georgia's golf program achieved remarkable success. Not only did they consistently break school records, but they also maintained high academic standards. Brewer's recruits were nationally recognized, with his 2019 and 2023 classes ranked No. 1 by Golf Channel. These achievements are a testament to Brewer's coaching prowess and the potential he brings to the EMU women's golf program.
Eastern Michigan recently opened the GameAbove Golf Performance Center at Eagle Crest Golf Course, funded by an $8 million gift from GameAbove. The state-of-the-art facility spans 13,000 square feet and includes advanced training amenities such as indoor putting and chipping areas and cutting-edge simulators.
Eagle Crest Golf Club, the home course for EMU’s women’s golf team, has been ranked No. 9 in the Top 25 College Golf Courses by Golf Pass Golfers' Choice 2024. This ranking highlights the university's commitment to providing an excellent training environment.
With Brewer’s proven track record and the new GameAbove Golf Performance Center, EMU's women's golf program is set to reach new heights, aiming for championships at both the conference and national levels.
