Detroit City FC triumphs on TRUEMU night

It was a memorable TRUEMU Night at Keyworth Stadium as Detroit City FC men’s and women’s teams clinched victories in front of an electrifying crowd on June 16. The special event saw fans treated to a double-header, with proceeds benefiting the EMU Student Emergency Fund.

Women's Team: Detroit City FC 2, Midwest United FC 1

The women's match kicked off the evening with Detroit City FC taking a significant step towards a USL W League playoff berth by defeating Midwest United FC 2-1. The tension was palpable as both teams battled in this top-of-the-table clash.

Joyelle Washington scored in the 25th minute, capitalizing on a deflected free kick from Hannah Crum. The momentum continued in Detroit's favor as Kayla Addison doubled the lead in the 51st minute with a composed finish from six yards out.

Despite a late penalty converted by Regan Berg in the 78th minute for Midwest United, Detroit City's determined defensive performance saw them secure the victory and solidify their position at the top of the Great Lakes Division.

In the men's match, Detroit City FC triumphed over the defending Eastern Conference champions, Charleston Battery, with a 2-0 victory in front of a season-high crowd 7,172.

After a goalless first half marked by strong defensive play and several fouls, the breakthrough came in the 87th minute. Maxi Rodriguez converted a penalty to give Detroit the lead. Elvis Amoh sealed the victory with a well-placed shot in stoppage time, ensuring a clean sheet for Carlos Saldaña.

This win marks Detroit City's first victory against Charleston since the 2022 season and continues their impressive form at home.
