Based on the best-selling novel by Robinne Lee, the recently released Prime Video film "The Idea of You" is currently trending. This romantic drama film demonstrates that age does not matter as an adult regarding love. This film stars Anne Hathaway as Solène and Nicholas Galitzine as Hayes.
Synopsis
In this film, Solène, a 40-year-old single mother, runs an art gallery in Los Angeles, California. She takes her daughter Izzy to see "August Moon," a band Izzy loved in her childhood. Solène meets "August Moon" lead vocalist Hayes Campbell, 24, while on this trip. Solène is surprised by his passion and goes on an adventure as if she were 20 years old.
Highs
A highlight of this movie is how Anne Hathaway plays the ideal single mother, showing a strong bond with her daughter. Solène and Izzy sing and confide in one another about everything. Solène's intense guilt over keeping her relationship with Hayes a secret from her daughter adds drama to the film. Secrets have the power to split a family apart, lending the film a dramatic quality. An additional highlight is the stunning costumes that perfectly capture the artistic feel of Solène's persona in the film. Hayes's attire worked well for a lead singer in a band, effectively capturing the essence of his demeanor.
Secondly, Hayes and Solène have amazing chemistry that displays their desire for one another. Galitzine portrays a 24-year-old singer flawlessly in his role as Hayes, which makes for great acting. Unlike the often snobby performers, Hayes has a much deeper personality and a close bond with Solène. His demeanor reveals a profound soul, filled with a lifelong lesson to never take anything for granted from his experiences. Unlike the other guys in the band, he appears to be the only one who genuinely believes in the music that he writes. The others perform their part as a "pop star" and just fool around with young women.
Part of the film takes place in Los Angeles as the characters visit several art galleries showcasing meaningful artwork. Other parts of the film are set in multiple countries, highlighting the exquisite features of sculptures and buildings. Unlike other movies, this one is a conventional pop star movie with a profound love story. The fact that the woman is older in this film than she typically is lends a distinct element to the narrative.
Lows
The lack of dialogue is one of the movie's low points; there isn't much character interaction besides when the couple is traveling and attending concerts. It did not convey the depth of their connection, only the joy the two were having. There should have been more sequences that demonstrated their profound conservations, but there were only a few of them. This would have been the ideal way to tie the entire movie together.
Another low point was that more background information or a scenario illustrating Solène's heartbreak should have been included, in addition to the account of what occurred with her husband. Certain moments that might have provided more context for her previous relationship were omitted from the film. There ought to have been more details on Hayes' personal history back in London.
Verdict
Due to the two characters' excellent acting and intense emotion, this movie had many great points and very few poor points. Their love was intense and difficult to escape.
