Eastern Michigan University announced a $6.5 million commitment from GameAbove to its Department of Athletics on May 28. This significant contribution aims to elevate EMU's men's and women's golf programs, bringing GameAbove's total support for EMU Golf to over $14.5 million. It marks the highest level of support from a single donor for one sport in the university's history.
EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee expressed gratitude for GameAbove's generosity, emphasizing how it will propel the golf programs to new heights and enhance the educational and athletic experiences of the golfers.
GameAbove, known for its multifaceted contributions, including charitable giving, capital investments, sports entertainment, and media ventures, has donated over $34.5 million to EMU and the surrounding community since 2019.
The $6.5 million gift will support various aspects of the golf programs, including coach compensation, adding full and part-time support staff, player development, and covering operational, equipment, and travel needs. This investment aims to develop two top-tier golf teams capable of competing at the highest levels.
Keith J. Stone, Chairman of GameAbove, highlighted that this reinvestment strengthens their strategic partnership with EMU to build a national powerhouse in collegiate golf. The recently opened GameAbove Golf Performance Center, funded by an $8 million gift from GameAbove, is an example of this commitment. The 13,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility at Eagle Crest Golf Course provides an unparalleled training environment with locker rooms, meeting spaces, indoor putting and chipping areas, and cutting-edge simulators.
Eagle Crest Golf Club's recent ranking at No. 9 in Golf Pass Golfers Choice 2024 Top 25 College Golf Courses underscores the facility's commitment to excellence. This rise in rankings reflects EMU's dedication to providing a comprehensive golf experience for students and the public.
GameAbove's newly formed sports-centric business investment entity, GameAbove Sports, will continue to support EMU athletes at the professional level, with more details on this sponsorship platform to be announced soon.
