EMU is set to soar at the 2024 MAC outdoor track and field championships

Eagles looking to pursue 25th men's, 13th women's MAC outdoor track titles

EMU track and field teams are gearing up to make their mark at the 2024 Mid-American Conference outdoor track and field championships, set to kick off at the Northern Illinois University Soccer and Track and Field complex in DeKalb, Illinois, from May 9 to May 11. With a rich history of success, both the men's and women's squads are wanting to pursue championship titles against competition from across the MAC.

The meet, scheduled for 10 a.m. CT on Thursday, will witness athletes from various universities competing for top honors. Fans eager to catch the action can stay updated through live results and championship central links on the EMU track and field schedule pages.

For the EMU men's team, the quest is to clinch their 25th MAC outdoor championship, a goal they last achieved in 2018 under the leadership of legendary men's head coach John Goodridge. The triumphant season included the Eagles' victory with 184.50 points and former Eagle Hlynur Andresson's stellar performances, which earned him the title of Most Valuable Performer. That same season, Goodridge's coaching got him the Coach of the Year accolade for the seventh time.

Meanwhile, the Eastern women are determined to add another chapter to their history book by securing their 13th MAC outdoor championship, with aspirations of replicating their 2016 sweep of both indoor and outdoor championships.

Reflecting on the previous MAC Outdoor Championships, EMU's women's team finished second with 105 points, closely trailing Ball State's 108 points. Angel Gazaway emerged as a standout performer, claiming victory in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles while setting impressive personal records along the way.

Following the MAC Championships, qualifying Eagles will set their sights on the 2024 NCAA East Prelims in Lexington, Kentucky, slated for May 22-25.
