Tennis’ Shved and Vichare named MAC Doubles Team of the Week

Eastern Michigan University’s tennis players Daniella Shved (Holon, Israel) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India) racked up the Mid-American Conference’s tennis Doubles Team of the Week, as the league announced on Tuesday, April 2.

Shved, a sophomore, and Vichare, a junior, competed at the No. 1 doubles slot as they secured a 6-2 win over Northern Illinois University to help the Eagles secure the doubles point.

Individually, Shved and Vichare took wins in their singles matches, and Shved won at the No. 1 while Vichare took a win at No. 2 that secured the team’s 6-1 win over NIU.

The duo was honored earlier this season when they won three consecutive games to clinch the doubles point for the Eagles against Cleveland State University on Feb. 4.

Just recently, EMU’s Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic) and Ksyusha Saenko (Voronezh, Russia) combined to earn the doubles award on March 19.

EMU Lacrosse’s Sydney Lawrence secures weekly MAC Defensive Award

Eastern Michigan University lacrosse graduate student Sydney Lawrence (Wylie, Texas) was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday, April 2.

Lawrence was honored after her performance in EMU’s 12-11 win over Kent State University as she notched four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and three draw controls with her CT total tying the school record.

Offensively, Lawrence drilled in three goals and secured her second hat trick of the season.

It now marks the second time in Lawerence’s career that she has received a MAC weekly honor after she was named offensive player of the week on March 28, 2023. She joins sophomore Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md.) as the only two-time honorees in program history.

Five Eagles named to swimming and diving CSC Academic All-District list

Making a splash in the pool and in the classroom!

Five Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving student-athletes were named to the Academic All-District honorees by College Sports Communicators (CSC), the organization announced Tuesday, April 2.

Senior Savannah Fisk (Chelsea, Mich.), junior Ashley George (Waukesha, Wis.), senior Camryn Hughes (London, Ontario), junior Rebekah Knapp (Mesa, Ariz.) and sophomore Ali Kudo (Guelph, Ontario) were all recognized for their accomplishments inside the classroom, all while being top notch student-athletes.

The list, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's swimming and diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Hughes now becomes the third Eagle in program history to receive the honor twice as she was named to the list last season. She joins Madeline Pilchard and Sarah Chrzanowski who each earned the award in the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Fisk, George, Knapp, and Kudo all earned the accolade for the first time in their careers. Each of the Eagles hold a 3.75 GPA as Hughes and George hold a perfect 4.00.

Knapp’s selection comes after she finished in second place in the 3m dive during the Mid-American Conference Championships, scoring 301.15 points.
