Multicultural Graduation Celebration

CORE to hold Multicultural Graduation for 2024 graduates

Sariah Metcalfe Shares What Went Into The Ceremony

While Eastern Michigan University is holding a graduation ceremony for the class of 2024, the Center for Diversity and Ethnicity (CORE) at EMU is holding their own graduation ceremony.

CORE is holding a Multicultural Graduation Ceremony (MGC) in Pease Auditorium on Friday, April 26, the day before commencement
for those students who bought tickets.

According to the website of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the purpose of the celebration is to acknowledge the achievements
of graduating students of color; domestic and international students at EMU. Giving a place for students of color to have a celebration unique to them and their peers.

“I have coordinated the event by convening the committee to make decisions about the theme, gifts for graduates and some of the goals for how we will be celebrating our students," said Sariah Metcalfe, CORE program coordinator.

Metcalfe oversaw the team at CORE that managed the logistics of the ceremony; from booking the space to identifying speakers, even
coordinating the decorations.

All students who registered for the ceremony by March 25 are expected to wear their graduation regalia to and throughout the event. Students can also expect a DJ along with a keynote speaker by EMU’s Dr. Uttara Manohar.
