Eastern Michigan Track at UofM Invitational feb 17th

Six Eagles top five different track and field events in Clyde Hart Classic

The Eastern Michigan University track and field team continued their outdoor season by traveling to Baylor University to compete in the Clyde Hart Classic.

Eastern was one of 13 schools that participated in the meeting. Among some of the other schools were Michigan, Baylor, Michigan State, and Oklahoma. The meet was also the second of the outdoor season, having competed at the University of Central Florida last weekend. 

Eagle athletes went on to place in the top five in numerous events, including Gabriel Singh (Toledo, Ohio) in the 400m hurdles, Ryan Johnson (Springboro, Ohio) and Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta) in the hammer throw, Alex Thompson (St. Catherine, Jamaica) in the long jump, and Mariia Yelanska (Dnipro, Ukraine) and Kyra Buffen (Columbus, Ga.) in the Triple Jump. 

Track Side:

On the track side of things, the Eagles had several different athletes competing up to the 3000 meters. In the men’s 100m, Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.) finished with the best time of 11.05. He was one of three Eastern Michigan athletes to race the 100m, and he took 24th overall. Williamson did even better in the 110 hurdles, finishing with 13.85 to take second place in this race out of 26 athletes. In addition, Williamson was the best Eastern Michigan finisher in the 200m, at 22.10

The women’s 100m race saw one EMU athlete race in it, which included Alyson Davis (Summerfield, N.C.) finishing with a time of 12.09. Davis placed 23rd overall out of 39 athletes.

Two athletes raced in the women’s 200 meters, which included Makiya Worthy (Federal Way, Wash.) leading the way at 24.67. The other Eastern Michigan athlete in this distance was Josephine Oloye (Iwaro Oka, Nigeria) with 24.81. Worthy also had a notable race in the 400, finishing with a time of 55.00, which was the 12th best in that respective event.

In the 400-meter race, the men for Eastern Michigan had two sprinters under sub-60 seconds, including Kyle Martin (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Josh Flake (Redford, Mich.) who each had times of 49.83 and 49.94, respectively.

The Eagles had a time of 45.49 in the women’s 100m relay and came in sixth out of 10 schools in the event.

Field Side:

Eight events covered the field side of the meeting. In the discus throw, McEarchen came in sixth place with a best throw of 46.90 meters. Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill.) on the women’s side of the discus throw had a 48.31 PR to take sixth place of all the 18 competitors.

Cadwell also had a 55.76m hammer throw, which was just outside the top five in this respective group as well.

Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich.) recorded a very good long jump of 1.68 to finish .11 behind first place in this respective category. 

Andrew Knieper (Lake Orion, Mich.) had a 51.86m javelin throw for Eastern Michigan to lead the Eagles in this respective event, while Fleuer Van Der Linden (Dunden, Netherlands) had a 3.86m pole vault to lead the Eagles in this category.

Eastern Michigan athletes also participated in the shot put and triple jump, finishing in the middle of the pack in both.

Up next, the Eagles will travel to Raleigh, N.C., to compete at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University. The meet will be held from Thursday-Saturday on March 28-30.
