What's The Move? Dec. 4 - 10

Are you bored in the house? Losing your mind studying? As the seasonal slumps roll in and the semester comes to a close, take these last few moments of the year to relax, interact with fellow EMU students around campus, and get involved in the vibrant Ypsilanti community.  

Happy Holidays: Bunnies and Bliss - Dec. 4 

Calling all animal lovers! Join the Honors College and Dr. Amy Shell-Gellasch for their “Happy Holidays: Bunnies and Bliss” event. Destress and play with some bunnies and chinchillas in the Honors college lower-level commons from 11am-1pm. It’s free! 

Campus Life Coach Meet Up - Dec. 4

Feeling ambitious? Head over to the career center in Mckenny Hall from 3pm-4pm to meet with campus life coaches to explore and discuss a variety of career opportunities awaiting.  

Jon Kung - Dec. 5

Meet Jon Kung, a celebrity chef and Emu alum! Join him at the Judy Sturgis Hill Building’s Spongberg theatre from 4-5:30pm for a chat and Q&A to talk all things food. It’s free! 

Season of Lights Planetarium Show - Dec. 5

Feeling festive? Light up your lives this season by joining EMU’s planetarium in the Mark Jefferson Science Complex for the Season of Lights show! From 8 - 9 p.m., this show "explores reasons humans are so fascinated with lighting up our lives during the holiday season" and is an exploration of the astronomical meanings behind seasonal traditions. Five dollars a ticket, open to the public! Get your tickets here.

Honors Crochet and Knitting Club - Dec. 5

Feeling crafty? Join the Honors college for their crochet and knitting club meeting from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. in the Honors college lower-level lounge. No experience needed and everyone is welcome! Create some yarn work, learn different skills, and have a good time. Make your own creations or craft some hats and scarves to donate this season with the Honors college crochet and knitting club! 

Elf Trivia - Dec. 5

Immerse yourself in the vibrant community of Ypsilanti and head downtown to bar and pub, Bobcat Bonnie’s! Starting at 7:30 p.m., take part in their Elf Trivia, inspired by the classic holiday movie. Grab some food, drinks, and play some trivia with friends! 

The Polar Express Holiday Party - Dec. 6

Feeling festive? Join LGBTRC in room 270 of the student center for a Polar Express inspired holiday celebration! From 6 - 8 p.m., come grab some hot chocolate and partake in the seasonal festivities. 

Comedy Open Mic Night - Dec. 6

Calling all comedy lovers! Got jokes? Join Depot Town’s welcoming and inclusive comedy open mic night, hosted by local Ypsi comic, Lisa Green. Head over to 734 Brewing Company, located at 15 E Cross Street, to show off your comedic chops with friends! 

EMU Men's Basketball - Dec. 7

Catch an EMU Men’s basketball home game right here in Ypsilanti at the George Gervin GameAbove center. At 7 p.m., catch the Eagles take on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies! 

EMU Esports Community Night - Dec. 7

Calling all gamers! Join the EMU Esports team as they host a community night, sponsored by McDonalds, to send off the fall semester! From 6 - 8 p.m., all students are welcome to eat good food, play video games, and watch the premiere of EMU Esports’ documentary. It's free in 310AB.

Spectral Slumber - Dec. 7

Get cozy at the Spectral Slumber Event! From 7 - 10 p.m., head over to the first floor of the student center to make blanket forts and watch a range of multimedia performances from artists and musicians. All students are welcome to bring pillows, blankets, and their grooviest onesie to take part in the onesie competition!  

 Symphony Orchestra and Ballet - Dec. 7

Experience the collaboration of the EMU dance department and symphony orchestra for a beautiful performance of Tchaikovsky’s sleeping beauty and other fairytales. Head over to Pease Auditorium from 7 - 8 p.m. to watch this ballet! Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults.

Riverside Swing - Dec. 8

Every week on Fridays from 9 p.m.-11:30 p.m., get moving with Riverside Swing at their open dance! If you’ve never danced before, no problem! From 8 p.m. - 9 p.m., Riverside swings offers free beginner lessons. All skill levels are encouraged and welcome, so bring a partner, round up your friends, or come as you are! $5 regular admission, $4 for students.

Honors College Holiday Swoopla - Dec. 9

Tis the season! Join the Honors college for their Holiday Swoopla 2023 event! From 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. in the Honors college lower level commons, celebrate the end of the semester with holiday inspired crafts, snow globes, holiday décor, and more! 

Riverside Arts Center Performance - Dec. 9

Need a laugh? Riverside Arts center is putting on A Man for Christmas: an NTG original parody by the Neighborhood Theatre Group at 7:30 p.m. Head over to Riverside Arts center at 76 N Huron Street for this perfect combination of holiday cheer and lighthearted laughs. Tickets are $7 for students.

Annual Candlelight Concert - Dec. 10

Head over to Pease Auditorium to watch the annual Candlelight Concert, a beautiful mixture of the works of J.S. Bach, Benjamin Britten, Sarah Quartel, and other classic holiday pieces. This annual fundraiser event supports the EMU Choral Department and its students. Tickets are $5 for students and $20 for adults.

Ypsilanti Bicentennial Walk - Dec. 10

Need some fresh air? Take a nature walk and have some monthly riverside rambles! Celebrating Ypsilanti’s Bicentennial, the second Sunday of each month this year has been hosting nature walks along the Huron River to explore the city of Ypsilanti and learn about its history. At 10 a.m. at the Pavilion at Waterworks Park, explore the diverse city of Ypsilanti in this 2-hour, 1 mile round-trip tour led by Stefan Szukmo.
