The Eastern Michigan University women’s volleyball team (2-14, 0-4 MAC) hosted Ball State (6-8, 3-0 MAC) Friday, Sept. 29 inside of the George Gervin GameAbove Center for some Friday night MACtion. The match-up was the first of a two day series against the Cardinals. In the end, Ball State swept the Eagles 3-0.
First Set
The Eagles put up a fight early, tying the set four times before Ball State took over and set the tone for the remainder of the match-up. EMU struggled hard to close the gap and fell 25-18.
Second Set
Early in the set the Cardinals took control and the Eagles trailed the entire match, but fought tirelessly to catch up. Their efforts weren’t enough as they would ultimately fall 25-17.
Third Set
Before dropping the set the Eagles were able to tie the score once, which was short lived. The Cardinals took over and widened the gap by more than 10 points during the set. The Eagles failed to catch up and dropped the set 25-16 for a Cardinals win.
“We played hard, but we didn’t play hard enough defensively,” said head coach Kevin Foeman. “During the third set our blocks picked up, our defense picked up, and our offense fell apart.”
The Eagles will have an opportunity to redeem themselves against the Cardinals Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. inside of the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
