Former Eastern Michigan University basketball star, Emoni Bates, and the Cleveland Cavaliers finished up NBA Summer League action on Monday night.
The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Houston Rockets, 99-78, for the 2023 NBA 2K24 Summer League Championship.
The Ypsilanti native finished with 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, 6/13 from the field, and 2/6 from three-point range as he was the team's third leading scorer.
Bates was named to the NBA’s All-Summer League second team as he averaged 16.8 PPG and 6.4 RPG while shooting 44% from the field through five games for the Cavaliers.
In the Summer League semifinal game, Bates finished with 20 points and seven rebounds as he shot 8/13 from the field, and ⅘ from three-point range in a win over the Brooklyn Nets, 102-99, to help advance the Cavaliers to the championship game.
Two weeks ago, the Cleveland Cavaliers officially signed Bates to a two-way contract for this upcoming season. This means that Bates will split time throughout the season between the parent club roster and the G League affiliate team, the Cleveland Charge.
