Riverside’s Ypsilanti Fine Arts Club hosted its third showcase event for local emerging artists to display their artwork June 7, from 5-8 p.m. at 76 N. Huron St.
The Fine Arts Club meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month. They accept all 2-D or 3-D visual art that can be maneuvered around a room.
Sculptures, jewelry, and wearable clothing are all welcomed art pieces. However, there are sub-limitations for the types of artworks allowed into the art show, one of them is customizable clothing.
“Nude art is allowed, but we ask that the artists be mindful that children may be present," Elizabeth Warren, the executive director of the Fine Arts Club, said. The pieces must be dry, be able to be carried by a single person, and must be original pieces when applicable, as replicas and prints are not encouraged.
Artists may show two of their art pieces at the show, but they are not required to present their artwork. There are presenters who volunteer to walk the artworks around the room, as well as an announcer and a moderator. Their first two shows hosted around 20 to 30 pieces.
The artworks on display may be put up for sale or can just be exhibited to the public. The artists may also enter to be the raffle artist at a future club meeting. The winner of the raffle receives all the funds collected.
"There are two clubs total. One is the Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club that has been around for decades that is not affiliated with Riverside. They gave us approval to do our own version of it: Riverside's Ypsi Fine Arts Club,” Warren said.
“People will travel from Garden City, Flint, and all over to see," Warren said. “Detroit was a huge inspiration for the Riverside Fine Arts Club and it’s definitely worth going."
