Eastern Michigan Womens vs WMU

EMU women's basketball drops road game against Toledo, 84-64

Freshman Olivia Smith led the Eagles in scoring.

In a road game on Feb. 18 at Savage Arena against the University of Toledo (21-4, 12-2 MAC), the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team (13-12, 5-9 MAC) came up short 84-64.

Four players for the Eagles scored double-figures, led by freshman Olivia Smith with 18 points. This is Smith’s eighth game scoring double-digits and her fourth time leading in scoring.

Sophomore Lachelle Austin followed with 11 points while senior Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu and junior Ce'Nara Skanes both had 10 points.

According to EMU Athletics, the 49 points scored by the four accounted for 77 percent of the team's scoring output against the Rockets.

The Eagles struggled from the jump, finishing the first quarter down 25-13. Attempts from the Eagles during the second quarter did minimal damage to the Rockets’ lead going into halftime still trailing, 48-26.

The Rockets continued to widen their lead with the Eagles down, 80-50, in the fourth quarter.

With 3:48 left in the ball game, the Eagles went on an 8-0 run, but it would be the Rockets who would come out victorious.

The team will be back home on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for a matchup against the University at Buffalo at 7 p.m.
