The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team jumped into their 2023 season at the Arizona State University Triangular in Tempe, Ariz. on Friday, Jan. 13. The Eagles produced a 192.150 final team score, finishing in third place behind Arizona State and UC Davis.
The Eagles started on the floor and earned their best event score of the night, scoring 48.525. Senior Hadyn Crossen and Junior Raisa Boris both tied for fifth place overall scoring a 9.775, leading the event for the team on the floor. Boris competed in all of the events in the season opener.
The second rotation saw the team’s lowest event score of the night, finishing with a 47.800 on vault. Senior Molly Parris scored 9.725 on the apparatus for the top score among the Eagles.
The third rotation consisted of bars where the Eagles saw Boris recording EMU’s top meet score for fourth place in the event, scoring a 9.850. Freshman Kyrie Lowe made her collegiate debut for the Eagles on bars tying for ninth place overall in the event with a 9.775 score.
The last event was finished on the beam where EMU produced a 48.00 event score. Sophomore Cassie Bergin made her collegiate debut on the beam scoring a 9.625 and fellow sophomore Ella Chemotti topped the squad on the apparatus as she recorded a 9.850 to win the event.
Next up, the Eagles will compete in another triangular meet at Iowa State University with UC Davis on Friday, Jan. 20, in Ames, Iowa. The meet is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. ET).
