The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team (4-13, 1-3 MAC) traveled to Akron, Ohio on Friday, Jan. 13, to face off against the University of Akron (11-6, 3-1 MAC) in a MAC conference battle. The Eagles were looking to avoid a two-game losing streak but failed to do so as the Zips defeated EMU, 104-67.
It was the 58th all-time meeting between the Eagles and Zips and with the loss, EMU’s record against Akron now sits at 23-35. The last time the Eagles beat Akron on the road in Akron, Ohio was 13 years ago on Feb. 1, 2010.
Sophomore Noah Farrakhan led the way for the Eagles, scoring 18 points off the bench. Fellow sophomore Tyson Acuff added 11 points and freshman Legen Geeter added 11 points.
It was a low-scoring game to start off the first half as only one point was scored between both teams with 17 minutes left. Akron would then catch fire and get things rolling as they ran out to a 19-11 lead with 11:34 left in the first half of play. The rest of the half would be all Akron Zips as they extended their lead, leaving EMU with a 46-26 deficit entering halftime.
The second half wasn’t much of a battle as Akron would pick up right where they left off and score a total of 58 second-half points to pick up a 104-67 win over the Eagles.
Next up, EMU will return to Ypsilanti as they host Kent State University on Tuesday, Jan. 17, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. That matchup is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+.
