EMU vs. Wayne State

EMU men’s basketball falls to Niagara in close matchup, 67-60

Farrakhan finishes with 21 points to lead scorers in loss.

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team (2-9, 0-0 MAC) fell to Niagara University (5-4, 1-1 MAAC), 60-67, on Sunday, Dec. 11, as a late game comeback wasn’t enough for the Eagles.

The loss puts the Eagles’ losing streak at two games after losing to Illinois State on Wednesday, Dec. 7, with EMU now being 0-1 all-time when playing at Niagara.

It was a close back-and-forth battle in the beginning with EMU falling behind, 35-33, with the Eagles then going on a 5-0 run highlighted by a three-pointer from sophomore Kevin-David Rice, which put the Eagles up, 38-35, heading into halftime.

Niagara came out in the second half of the matchup on fire as they jumped out to a 48-41 lead until the Eagles went on a 9-0 run with sophomore Yusif Jihad finishing a layup to put the Eagles up, 50-48, with 8:49 remaining in the game.

That wasn’t enough though as Niagara finished the game outscoring EMU, 19-10, to secure the 67-60 win.

Sophomore Noah Farrakhan finished the game with 21 points, four assists, and four rebounds to lead the Eagles offensively. Sophomore Emoni Bates added 13 points, and sophomore Jalin Billingsley added nine points.

Next up, the Eagles host the University of Detroit Mercy inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center on Sunday, Dec. 18. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN+ and WEMU (89.1 FM) and will be the final home non-conference game of the season as the Eagles will enter conference play in January.
