Senior Raeven Chase sets career-high at women's volleyball game against Ohio

EMU volleyball falls to Ohio University, 3-1.

The Eastern Michigan University women's volleyball team hosted Ohio University inside the George Gervin Game Above Center on Friday, Oct. 7.

The Bobcats led the whole first set as the Eagles fell behind and couldn’t overcome, ending the set 25-23 in favor of the Bobcats. 

In the second set, the Eagles had a comeback with 21-20 in the early parts of the set however the Bobcats went on a five-point run which led to their second consecutive set win with a 25-21 score.

The Eagles finally got their comeback with an early lead of 3-0 in the third set and continued the momentum to a 25-22 set win.

In the final set, Ohio started with an early lead of 7-5 and carried that to a 25-22 set win, which also earned them a 3-1 match win over the Eagles.

Senior Raeven Chase led the Eagles' attack with 20 kills, which set a career-high for Chase. Her previous career high was 19, set against Ball State University on Nov. 11, 2021. 24 percent of EMU's points against Ohio were accounted for by Chase.  

Samantha Basham tallied 19 kills in the match. Basham registered 17.5 points against the Bobcats, giving her 68.5 on the season, which is good for sixth place in the MAC. Basham also led the team in total attacks with 44 tonight, her fourth most this season.

Sophomore Kendall Burk had a career-high of 44 assists which facilitated the eagle’s offense. Burk's big night moves her to assist total on the season to 134, placing her seventh in the MAC.

Freshman Emma McMahon recorded a game-high 24 digs for the Eagles. She continued her season-long streak of double-digit digs registering 21 digs to bring her season total to 244.

EMU reached 50 or more kills for the fifth time this season with 58 in the matchup. Six different Eagles registered kills against the Bobcats, including double-digit stats from Basham, graduate student Callie Minshew, and Senior Chase. the Eagles notched 60 or more digs for the fourth time this season, reaching 65 tonight. That total ranks as the third most the Eagles have recorded all season, as EMU grabbed 69 digs against the University of Louisiana, on Aug. 26, and Coppin State University, on Sept. 16.

Next up, the Eagles will host Kent State University on Saturday, Oct. 8, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. That matchup is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN3.

Following that, the Eagles will see Miami University on Friday, Oct. 14, and Saturday, Oct. 15, in Oxford Ohio inside Millett Hall. Friday’s matchup is scheduled to start at 4 p.m., while Saturday’s matchup will start at 5 p.m.
