Eastern Michigan University‘s cross country program traveled to Louisville, KY. for the Liv in Lou Cross Country Classic hosted by The University of Louisville. The meet took place Oct. 1 at the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park.
The Eagles saw success with the men’s team charting a top-five finish. In the 8k Men’s Gold Division Senior harrier Baldvin Magnusson finished the race in 12th place with a time of 23:44:3. Following Magnusson closely was sophomore Toby Gualter placing 13th in 23:53.0.
“It was a solid day for our teams,” said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. “It was great to gain experience in a big meeting setting. We came away with a better idea of what to work on. Marcus Kemp had a breakthrough race at the number three spot in his first 8k race for us.”
Kemp crossed the finish line in 32nd place rounding out the top 50 for the Eagles accompanying Senior Eddie Zuercher who placed 47th in 24:18:2.
Junior Faith Rono placed 37th and led Emu’s women’s team in the 5k Gold Division coming in 15th-place for the team finish. Junior Sofia Ivanko finished in 44th place in 17:33.2, joining Rono in the top 50.
“For the women, our top three ran well, but we have to close the gap before our next two scores,” said Parks. “Overall we are happy with where we are heading into this next stretch of the season.”
Next week, The Eagles head to Penn State National for their final national meet. The meet will take place Oct. 14 in University Park, PA., with a start time of 10 a.m. ET. More information will be released closer to the meet date.
