The annual Eastern Michigan University Fall Classic, hosted in Dexter, Michigan on Oct. 21, was the end of the regular season for the EMU cross country men’s and women’s teams.
Freshman Kiera Hansen, finishing her best time in a 5k in her career, completed the race with a 20:06.0 time, placing her 33rd in the race. Sophomore Ella Garvin crossed the line at 20:57.1, finishing 42nd in the race, and freshman Elena Wheeler placed directly behind Garvin finishing at 21:09.0 and placing 43rd in the race.
The male team competitors consisted of freshman Carson McCoy, who crossed the line at 15:57.4 placing 19th, which set his career-best finish. Junior Ronald Brandal crossed the line at 16:24.8 completing his first race of the season in 23rd place, and freshman Grant Sweningson completed the men’s line-up placing 49th with a time of 17:57.6.
Eastern had two unattached runners for the meet, one in the men's division and one in the women's. Senior Andy Payne completed his race with a time of 15:30.7 placing 10th in his season opener and freshman Sadie Williams took 47th place with a time of 21:36.9 in her collegiate debut.
The Eagles will be back at the Mid-American Conference Championships on Oct. 29, in Athens, Ohio. The meet will be held at the Ohio University Golf Course and is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
