What do wrestling bees, breakdancing, Dr. Bee Good, an illuminated dance party, a costume contest, and a honeycomb art installation have in common? The craziest party in Ypsilanti!
This Friday, Sept. 2, enjoy live, mad entertainment on Cross St. While First Fridays and the Festival of the Pollinators will be buzzing about, Rumble of the Bumble, presented by This, That & The Odder Things will join in the fun as they celebrate their 2nd year anniversary.
“We really liked the thought of cross-pollinating our city and bringing people from one area to another,” Claire Broderick, owner of This, That & The Odder Things, and the organizer of Rumble of the Bumble commented.
The event aims to bring people from all parts of Ypsilanti together, featuring wrestlers, street performers, break dancers, prizes, and more, making Rumble of the Bumble an experience like no other.
Come tell your woes to Doctor Bee Good and he’ll give you a prescription to see The Mad Pharmacist at This, That, & The Odder Things for something to cure your ailments, or watch Big Bruce Buzzbee take on Guy Phosate and buzz at his nasty chemical friends in the wrestling match of the century, with a special performance by Sophia VonStardust.
The event will also feature a Wellness Tent with mini services in eastern healing practices, as well as a Games Green Tent where participants can play games and win gift certificates to their favorite, local Ypsi businesses.
While Rumble of the Bumble will get the attention of anyone passing by, Broderick sees this event transcend into everyday shopping as well by incorporating all of the senses.
“It’s not just retail anymore. It’s really more about the experience,” Broderick explained.
This, That, & The Odder Things will get the attention of anyone coming in with unique, quirky finds everywhere someone looks, including a moving bookcase that separates This, That & The Odder Things from Broderick’s hair salon, Sprig’s Hideaway.
“It’s the experience of joy, the experience of fun, it’s the laughter,” Broderick said, commenting on the laughter she’d hear at her salon. “I hear laughter and it makes me so happy. I’m just like, yes, that’s what I want, you know, to create a reaction or an emotion that’s positive,” Broderick stated.
Rumble of the Bumble will be held Sept. 2, 4:30-10:00, at E. Cross St. Free, accepting donations.
