Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels (YMOW) is hosting a pet-friendly socializing event, raising money for Pets Assisting the Lives of Seniors (P.A.L.S.) on Aug. 4 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 1110 W. Cross Street.
Pets for P.A.L.S is a support program provided by YMOW. Many of YMOW’s home-bound senior clients face social isolation since many of them live alone. Having a pet is one of the main ways of combating social isolation, as pets make good companions.
Pets for P.A.L.S is partnered with the Humane Society of Huron Valley so that the earnings from the event can be used to provide food, grooming supplies, veterinary care, and more to pets in need, as not many seniors have the means to do so themselves because they are home-bound.
“We want this event to be as impactful as possible, said Ranjana Angamuthu, an intern for YMOW. “Really anything would help with helping our client’s pets… We’re really looking forward to this event, and there’s going to be a lot of cute animals there.”
The event will have many activities that pet owners can do with their pets. Activities include a silent auction with treats for pets, gift cards, and toys. There will be a painting event where pet owners can frame their pet’s paw prints. There will also be a place to take photos with pets, a pet kiddie pool for animals to swim in, and a food truck. The Human Society of Huron Valley will be bringing in some animals for the event as well.
To attend, participators can either pay $10 or buy an item off of the programs Amazon Wishlist. Items on the wishlist include pet food, toys, and dog beds. Everyone is welcome to attend and bring their pets.
