Welcome Back 2022 celebration Aug. 31 outside of Student Center

Celebrate back-to-school with music, giveaways, and more at the Welcome Back 2022 event.

The Student Center is celebrating the back-to-school season with its annual Welcome Back event on August 31 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The event will be held on the Student Center patio where attendees will be greeted with a variety of music. Students will also have the chance to enter giveaways and learn more about the resources offered at Eastern Michigan University.

Some of the resources offered do not only pertain to on-campus life, but community aid as well.

"They have a lot of connections with different businesses and local community members," Christina Raupp, Student Marketing Coordinator said. "That's a really great way for students to not only get connected on campus but also get that confidence to venture off campus."

Due to the resources covering a large scope of the community, Raupp believes this can help aid those who are unacquainted with the Ypsilanti area, revealing to them what Ypsilanti has to offer.

All students are encouraged to attend the event, especially freshman and sophomore students since the COVID-19 pandemic has inhibited the university from hosting as many events in the last few years.

"We are looking at a group of students that have missed out in the last two years of really having this experience, we're looking at sophomores that haven't had the freshman experience," Kevin Lawson, Director of the Student Center, said. "We really want to welcome [the students] home, really. It's going to be their home for the next three to four to five years."

Lawson hopes that the aspects of the event will draw a large and diverse crowd, succeeding in its mission of welcoming. The event is free to attend and open to anyone apart of the EMU community.
