Opinion: Songs perfect to fill your fall playlist

With summer coming to a close, its time to start on the perfect fall playlist.

As the days get shorter and school starts back up, having a playlist full of warming tracks can help create a good time regardless. If you’re moving in on campus, enjoying a walk in the park, or just need some good tunes, here are some songs that are perfect to add to your fall playlist.

"Summers Over Interlude" by Drake

This short and somber track is one of Drake's best on album “Views." Sung by OVO member Majid Jordan, this rhythm and blues track is perfect when enjoying the cooler side of autumn.

"Sweet VA Breeze" by Shelley FKA DRAM

While DRAM was known for his more upbeat rap songs like “Broccoli," his new persona, Shelley FKA Dram, is perfect for the fall weather. Riding along to this R&B-infused song is the perfect soundtrack for your fall season.

"careless (feat. Daniel Caesar)" by FKA twigs

Combining the two talents of FKA twigs and Daniel Caesar instantly creates a hit. This slow, atmospheric song is perfect for a late-night drive with someone else.

"Shadow Dance" by The Internet

The Internet is known for their relaxing songs, thanks to Syd’s voice and production from Patrick Paige and Matt Martian. This song is for those crisp starry nights on campus.

"See you Soon" by beabadoobee

Indie rock is perfect for the fall weather, and beabadoobee does it just as well as anybody else. Not only is “See you Soon” superb for the later end of fall, but the entire album still captures the bright energy of this season.

“West Savannah (feat. SZA)" by Isaiah Rashad

One of the best duos out is none other than SZA and Isaiah Rashad of Top Dawg Entertainment. This early collaboration of theirs is soothing and relaxing from start to finish. Not only does this song match up with the season, but so do “Warm Winds” and “Pretty Little Birds."

"F.F." by Lil Uzi Vert

While the fall is synonymous with a more relaxed vibe, there's nothing wrong with having a hard-hitting song. The guitar riff and the 808s are filled with energy and were one of the better trap songs of this year.

"Give You the World" by Steve Lacy

Though tracks like “Bad Habit” and “N Side'' are Steve’s most notable songs, “Give You the World” may fit your playlist better. Personally, I think this soulful track is the most beautiful song on this list.

"Better Distractions" by Faye Webster

Any song by Faye Webster fits the seasons of fall due to her mesmerizing mix of indie-pop and country for a bittersweet sensation. The slow drum kicks, soft piano keys, and Faye’s wispy voice create the perfect song for this time of year.

"Lyke U Use 2 (feat. Andres)" by Moodymann

In the spirit of the recent craze for dance and house music, there’s nobody better to turn to than Detroit’s own Moodymann. Though this song plays at 180bpm, Moodymann’s voice comes out lax, manipulating the rapid beat that gets lodged in your brain.

There are, of course, plenty of other songs to soundtrack your life this time of year, but these are a mix of favorites. If you haven't already, check out my 2021 fall playlist for more recommendations.
