People love Friday for many reasons: it not only signals the end of a long week, but also the release of heavily anticipated music. With more surprises than disappointments, July 22 featured some amazing projects. Check out the best albums and EPs of this week:
Rico Nasty -- "Las Ruinas"
Over the past few years, there has been almost no one as influential to the alternative rap scene as Rico Nasty. Taking her sound to new heights, she releases “Las Ruinas” featuring Bktherula, Teezo Touchdown, Marsmello and an excess of talented producers. This is truly a gem within her discography as she raps over punk, dancehall and breakbeat influenced production.
Joey Bada$$ -- "2000"
The most anticipated release of this week was none other than New York’s finest, Joey Bada$$. A sequel to his acclaimed mixtape 1999, 2000 proves Joey is up there with the best. From sampling Men I Trust to a fantastic feature from Westside Gun, this is one of the best hip-hop albums of the year.
Lil Uzi Vert -- "Red & White"
Lil Uzi had plenty of eyes on them as well as they released their RED&WHITE mixtape leading up to their Pink tape album. While many critics were claiming they were on the verge of falling off, Uzi proves they are still as talented as the best of them. Though many tracks are not on streaming services like Apple Music or Spotify, you can listen to the entire EP on Soundcloud.
Flo Milli -- "You Still Here, Ho?"
The rise of Flo Milli is something to watch after having her breakout song “Beef FloMix.” She has not pressed the brakes. “You Still Here, Ho?” is an exciting project with two key features from Rico Nasty to Detroit's own Babyface Ray. Plenty of entertaining tracks from her singles like “Roaring 20s” and “PBC,” but plenty of other hits like “Hottie.”
Cuco -- "Fantasy Gateway"
Cuco finally released his second full-length studio album “Fantasy Gateway.” He is still one of the leading faces of bedroom pop with his lucid psychedelic style. Twelve tracks long, this album is the perfect successor to “Para Mi.”
Beach Bunny -- "Emotional Creatures"
With almost seven million monthly listeners, Beach Bunny is already a renowned name. Thanks to the success of her “Prom Queen” EP and her “Honeymoon” album, she has received plenty of praise in the genre of indie rock. “Emotional Creatures” is 36 minutes full of everything a Beach Bunny fan may need and plenty more.
Icewear Vezzo -- "Rich Off Pints 3"
There are many at the forefront of Detroit’s rising music scene, and Vezzo has been one of the focal figures in the city. The third installment of his Rich Off Pints series is just as vicious as the rest. The veteran continues to stand out along with his star-studded features of Lil Baby, G Herbo, Lil Durk and more.
Of course, these were not the only releases this week. Some other projects included Shygirl “Coochie(a bedtime story),” LEECH "Headless," Montell Fish “Jamie” and Mac Miller “I Love Life, Thank You" as well as singles from Doechii, Channel Tres, Internet Money, Genesis Owusu and more.
