The Rosie the Riveter Craft Show will take place in North Bay Park on July 23 from 10 a.m - 4 p.m.
This marks the craft show's fifth annual show and will showcase 100 crafters selling their pieces.
There will be a 40ft inflatable obstacle course next to the park playground for the children to play with. There will also be 2 food trucks; one is a Good Eats food truck and the other is a Lucky Beez food truck.
Entrance tickets are not required, but money will be needed to buy the arts and crafts and to buy from the food trucks. Parking will be a $2 fee.
“It’s been wonderful, we’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback in years past,“ said Robin Castle-Hine, an organizer of the event. “We’re really excited to be here when it’s time to have the show.”
There will also be real Rosie the Riveters (Rosies) from World War II who are eager to answer any questions anyone may have. This event is mainly to honor the real Rosies who went out and worked during the war.
“It’s really fun listening to [the Rosies] history… and they’re always happy,” said Castle-Hine. “I’ve never seen a Rosie there that wasn’t just happy and excited to share their story.”
There are actually many Rosie the Riveters in Ypsilanti. Michigan is home to many real-life Rosies who worked during the second world war. It’s essential that we learn from them and take a chance to hear what it was like during WWII as a Rosie because these women won’t be around forever.
“Recognizing them is really important,” said Castle-Hine. “It’s actually amazing to sit and chat with the Rosies, and they’ll take photos with you and they’ll tell you everything.”
There will be plenty of time to chat and talk to the Rosies at the craft show. Everyone is more than welcome to take pictures with them and learn what it was like to be a Rosie.
