Opinion: Eating less salt daily can have many benefits and prevent health risks

Salt can be just as bad to your health as sugar, so be cautious.

Most people know very well that consuming too much sugar can affect their health badly. On the other hand, many people consume salt without recognizing that consuming a lot of it can be risky too.

To start, there is overwhelming evidence that high salt consumption is a major cause of increased blood pressure. There is also a link between high salt consumption and risk of stroke, left ventricular hypertrophy, renal disease, obesity, renal stones, and stomach cancer. So, when salt intake is lowered, those risks are lowered coincidentally.

Also, to maintain the pH balance of your body and ensure your muscles function properly, maintaining electrolyte balance is very important. Of course, sodium, or salt, is one of the main components of this electrolyte. Thus limiting salt intake can ensure that your muscles are functioning the right way. Furthermore, if you eat a low-sodium diet, then your arteries will be less congested and you'll feel less fatigued, and therefore, feel more energetic.

If you are looking to lead a more healthy, energetic lifes, you might want to monitor your daily salt intake.
