Review: Shane Garcia, a sincere artist with an accessible sound

If honesty is the best policy, Shane Garcia may be best for your playlist. In her new single “You’re Not Her,” the New York based artist opens up about a past relationship.

Shane Garcia comes from a unique background, having roots going back to the Dominican Republic and Ecuador. Not only this, but her experience growing up in New York City, along with coming out at an early age, are important parts of her identity. In her music, you can hear the influence her background has as she writes from her world.

Recently, Garcia announced the release of a new single titled “You’re Not Her” following the release of her previous single “Bestest Friend.” Inspiration for this song comes from her own personal experience of a brutally honest conversation. Her description of this situation can be relatable for many.

“I didn’t get over my previous partner fully and continuing to date is a shitty slope to go down... I thought with time my feelings would match theirs, but it proved that I always had 'her' on my mind, and she was who I looked for in everyone at the time,” Garcia said.

“All signs point to me baby / I did it/ I did it / I’m guilty that's my plea”- "You're Not Her" by Shane Garcia

Over the chords, her lush voice is filled with emotion. Backed by background vocals and a repetitive chorus, it feels as if listeners get a take into her mind during the conversation. Her R&B pop sound is truly easy on the ears.

As she continues to build steam with these releases, it will be great hearing more from Shane.
