Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team traveled to Naperville, Illinois on April 29-May 1 to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships. After day one of the competition, EMU took the lead and gained the top spot on the leaderboard.
Cougar Collins tallied six birdies with a four-under 32.
Cam Kellett carded a 72 and tied for fourth in his first MAC Championship.
Zack Mason tied for 11th after a round of 72 and Ty Celone sat in 16th at 76. Mj Smith added a 78 for EMU coming in 25th place.
On day two of the MAC men's golf championship, the Eagles moved down to third place with Bowling Green following behind in fourth place with a score of 602.
Individually leading their teams at even-par 144 were Barend Botha from the University of Toledo (68-76), Kent State’s Josh Gilkison (72-72), Jack Ebner from Miami University (73-72) and Cougar Collins (67-78) representing EMU.
On May 1, EMU finished the 2022 Mid-American Conference Championship tied for fifth place with Miami University. The Eagles finished with an overall score of 898 (289-309-300) over the three day competition.
Cougar Collins tied for seventh place with a seven-over 223 (67-78-78) which marks his first top-10 finish of the 2021-22 season.
According to EMU Athletics, EMU senior Cougar Collins’ scoring average of 73.91 ranks sixth all-time and will go down as one of the best performers in program history.
Teammates Zack Mason and Cam Kellett tied for 15th place, posting rounds of 75 both with a score of 226, with this being Kellett’s first top-15 finish for EMU.
