Kadian Clarke beats EMU shot put record at Spartan Invitational

EMU track and field had a successful weekend meet at the Spartan Invitational April 1.

Eastern Michigan University’s track team traveled to East Lansing on April 1 to compete in the two-day Spartan Invitational.

During day one of the Spartan Invitationals, the Eagles' throwers had a solid showing with an individual first-place performance, two-second place performances, and two new personal records for additional Eagle teammates.

Senior thrower Kadian Clarke placed first in the women’s hammer event with 55.64m.

Ariel Floyd added to the dominant throwers' performances, recording second place in the hammer events with a best of 54.02m.

In the men's events, junior Newlyn Stephenson finished in second place with a hammer throw scoring 63.96m, just 0.1 meters off his personal record.

Going into day two of the Spartan Invitational, the Eagles continued to record dominant performances and break personal records.

Junior Eddie Zuercher competed in the 800m for the first time and finished with a time of  1:57.11, tallying the seventh fastest time of day two at the Spartan Invitational.

Clarke continued her dominance from day one of the Spartan Invitationals, recording another career day by breaking her personal record in discus hurling of 45.05m, while also breaking a school record in shot put with a record of 15.63m.

Next weekend, EMU will split up to compete in multiple track meets on April 7-9. The Eagles will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to compete in the Tennessee Relays. The Eagles will also compete at Coral Gables, Florida in the Hurricane Alumni Invitational. The third track and field event will keep the Eagles in Michigan to face off in the Golden Grizzlies Invite on April 8-9.
