The Eastern Michigan University baseball team (3-10, 1-3 Mid-American Conference) traveled to Bulldog Park in Indiana on Saturday, Mar. 15 to face off against Butler in the first game of a three-game series.
Striking first in the second inning, the Eagles scored the first two runs of the game putting Butler in a hole early. Butler responded with one run to bring the game to 2-1, going into the fifth-inning.
Going into the top of the fourth, the Eagles’ bats came alive. The Eagles tallied two runs in the fourth before blowing the game wide open on Butler in the eighth and ninth innings scoring five runs in each securing the win for EMU 15-4.
A total of nine Eagle players tallied at least one hit in game one of the series versus Butler. Junior Gabe Denton lead the charge with a game-high of home runs with one as well as runs scored with four total.
Senior Daniel Warkentin was also active scoring three runs and hitting a double on the game.
EMU played three pitchers on the mound in the contest. Pitcher Zach Fruit played in six innings for the Eagles giving up one run seven hits and striking out two bulldogs.
Junior Trevor House played two innings struck out four Bulldogs and gave up zero runs.
Freshman Dom Anderson played one inning and gave up 3 runs.
The all-time head-to-head series against Butler now sits at, 3-3 as of March 15. The two programs will meet in two more matchups to complete a three-game series.
Following the three-game series on Tuesday, Mar. 22, the Eagles will host Oakland University at Oestrike Stadium.
