Opinion: The perfect songs to express your love this Valentine's Day

What would music be like without love? Here are some love songs I recommend for your Valentine's playlist.

Feb. 14 is a day meant to express love toward the people that make even the mundane special. One of the best ways to gift your feelings is with a hand made playlist. This Valentines Day, if you’re in need of a love song that is not too cliche or overused, here is the perfect list for you.

Prototype by Outkast

If you’re an Outkast fan you are aware of this legendary song. Sampling Patti Lablle's "Love, Need and Want You," which was originally written for the lovely Janet Jackson, this beautiful song is a perfect way to describe falling in love. The chords laid down by the guitar paired with Andrè 3000's soulful voice is a must for any playlist.

I'm Not In Love by 10cc

Going all the way back to 1975, this lovely hit is a creative masterpiece. Using just three voices, the artists created an otherworldly 624 man choir. As the singer goes through denial of falling in love, the wave of voices envelopes you into an unescapable bubble.

Awkward by Tyler, the Creator

A relatable tale about teenage love comes from the perspective of an awkward boy. The short, yet sweet storytelling takes you straight to the night where this young man felt like he was floating. The chorus to this song sticks to you like honey even with the dark baritone style.

Same Size Shoes by serpentwithfeet

For good reason, this is not serpentwithfeet's first entry here at the Echo. If you and your loved one are too much alike, this gospel artist has a track tailored just for you. His angelic song will be perfect for you and your loved one.

Doc by Chocolate Milk

Is there that special someone that makes your heart spin well? The perfect remedy is “Doc” by Chocolate Milk. As the singer takes us through his confusion of catching the love bug, we are swayed by the accompanying saxophone, horns and background singers. This is truly an old school love song perfect for the romance-filled month of February.

Melting by Kali Uchis

Using affectionate child-like metaphors, this Latina pop artist creates the feeling of innocence when falling in love. The entire song feels like a warm hug due to the angelic strings descending or the soft drum kicks coming in at every beat. There are not that many songs that capture the feeling of falling in love like this one.

Beautiful by Shelley FKA DRAM

We have all met that person who has left us awe struck by their beauty. DRAM honors his lady by comparing and repeating her beauty for the world to know. If you are ever at a lost for words, sending this to your Valentine will send a love-filled message.

Stay High by Brittany Howard (revisioned by Childish Gambino)

They say no drug is better than love. Both versions of this song are amazing, but there is a certain element that Childish Gambino brings to this version. His quiet falsetto gives the feeling of intimacy as he leads us through all three minutes.

Caught Up in the Rapture by Anita Baker

This iconic song is the well needed final touch to your playlist. This song is the embodiment of any love song. If you’re trying to replicate that old school love your parents or grandparents had, Anita has the song for you.

Music has always been a way to convey your feelings. What better way to celebrate the holidays than with a lovely playlist. Hopefully these love songs do the job.
