Opinion: Alameda, a name you should become familiar with

The past few years have been nothing short of success for female R&B singers. Alemeda may be the next young star to follow.

Alemeda is part of a now growing generation of artists finding success through the social media app Tik Tok. Her first debut song was “Wish You The Worst," but most of the world was introduced to her through single “Gonna Bleach My Eyebrows." Building off that success, her newest single titled “Post Nut Clarity," has finally come to fruition.

Born in Ethiopia, later moving to the U.S., Alemeda’s childhood plays a big part in where she is now. Growing up in a deeply religious household, she used to sneak around to hear the Top 40 hits to draw inspiration. That rebellious nature of hers has now translated into her music, giving as its impenitent and full of spirit. As you listen to her catalog, her individuality is well reflected with revivifying flow and sonic tones.

The R&B singer had previously teased the single “Post Nut Clarity” way back in October. The track was finally released on streaming services on Feb. 17. Even though the track title hits harder than most, it is just as charismatic and catchy as her other songs. Though her voice sounds sweet, she sugar coats nothing as she illustrates an unsatisfying night. Like many of her songs, her form of R&B is pop inspired.

“Really didn’t think it’d go like this / Shoulda stayed my ass celibate / Shouldn’t have let you in my bed / You didn’t even ask me what I wanted / You made dumb assumptions / Clearly not your forte / Clearly don’t be f*cking / You been f*cking liars / Thought that I should let you know.”

Alemeda’s catalog is short yet sweet and many of the tracks have a rhythm that encourages you to get on your feet and dance. The strongest element in many of her songs are the compelling melodies that nudge into your head. Like many new artists, Alemeda has room to grow of course, and has yet to release an EP or album.

Though I’m unable to see into the future, I am confident this singer can break through and receive the acclaim she deserves. Alemeda has plenty more music unofficially released on streaming platforms like Soundcloud. If you have the time to check out her work, you will not be disappointed.
