It has been over two years since Frank Ocean released a single track, and getting close to 2,000 days since his last studio album “Blonde” was released. We can all agree that everyone is starving for Frank Ocean material. Apple Music fans, on the contrary, have benefited from Blonded Radio and Frank Ocean's Christmas Day release.
This episode of Blonded Radio focuses on a conversation between extreme athlete and motivational speaker Wim “Iceman” Hof, and Frank Ocean himself. Not only that, it also consists of an eight minute long freestyle from Ocean too. This episode is more than just an enjoyable song to listen to, but truly interesting discussions as well. Hof speaks about stress, grief and the impact that nature can have on your mind and body. Listening to this was more inspirational than a Ted-Talk.
“Nature has the capacity not only to heal but all to take on the purpose of those who left, it is subconscious and deeply within but it is still there,” Wim Hof said.
After the release of this Christmas day episode, Frank Ocean posted the following on his Instagram story: “Me and @iceman_hof had a conversation some time ago when I was in the earlier stages of grief and I remember marveling afterwards at how his energy blasted through the phone,” Frank Ocean wrote. “So much vim in this Wim. We spoke for a while about his work, the purpose of grief, and how going into the cold water changed his life. It reminded me of conversations in the studio with players I know. Freewheeling, psychedelic, emotionally charged, intelligent and generous.”
Many believe that this song, just like this conversation, was attributed to and influenced by the death of Ocean’s brother Ryan Breaux. Ryan was his younger brother who tragically passed away at the age of 18 in a car crash in 2020, along with his friend Ezekiel.
This is the third noticeable public interaction from Ocean this year, including his new brand Homer jewelry and his Met Gala appearance with his toy robot. Hopefully this means an improvement on Ocean’s mental health and the potential of more music in the near future.
