EMU Track & Field finish 1st in Akron Quad Meet

Both teams claimed victories over the Akron Zips, men 163-123 and women 165-156.

On Friday, Jan 14, Eastern Michigan track & field claimed victories at the Akron Quad Meet in the Stile Athletics Field House. Eastern Michigan men’s team scored a 163, over Akron’s 123 and Buffalo’s 113. The women’s team final score of 165 claimed victorious over Akron's 156 and Buffalo's 118.

Taige Bryant exceeded his school record toss of 22.56m in weight throw with a 22.85m toss. Bryant's throw ranked second in the nation and first in the Mid-American Conference. Kadian Clarke also claimed victory in the weight throw, recording a personal season-best of 19.65m.

“Taige Bryant has taken his performances to a whole new level. It will be exciting to see what he can accomplish this season,” said Director and Head Coach Sue Parks.

Sprinter Kaleb Simpson completed a double-win in the 60m and 200m dash. Simpson finished the 60m in 6.86 seconds, afterward completing the 200m in 21.35 seconds. Kyle Martin recorded two new personal records of 6.92 seconds in the 60m and 21.86 seconds in the 200m dash. Almighty Williamson ran a career-high in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.99 seconds.

Baldvin Magnusson had a strong showcase placing in the 800 (2nd - 1:52.79), mile (1st - 4:04.15), and 3000 (1st - 8:03.35). Magnusson’s mile time records a new personal best.

Toby Gualter, Solomon Costa, and Marcus Kemp also completed new personal best times in the mile. Gualter also had a personal record in the 3000m with 8:09.62.

Sprinter Mair Edwards won the 400m dash in 56.24 seconds, and Noriyah Johnson took second place with 56.75 seconds, a new personal best. Alysse Wade recorded a third victory in 60m hurdles this season with a time of 8.73 seconds. Lexi Seifert earned a new personal best (5:00.54) in the mile.

The women’s 4x400 relay team placed first in the event. Tiffany Cernej-Garcia, Mair Edwards, Saraiah Walkes, and Noriyah Johnson, finished the relay in 3:48.35, almost 10 seconds faster than the second placed team.

This meet served EMU’s track team with many accomplishments, for both individual stars, and the track team as a whole.
