Holiday-themed events for families and friends in Ypsilanti

Holiday events across Ypsilanti are taking place throughout December.

Looking for a holiday event in Ypsilanti this December? From holiday markets to crafting activities and musical performances, there are a variety of fun activities for people of all ages to enjoy.

First Fridays Ypsilanti - December 2021

First Fridays Ypsilanti presents its monthly arts and culture walk that connects local artists and businesses to host free events. This event will feature enterprises hosting artists, pop-ups, live entertainment, shopping specials, and more. This is the last First Fridays event of the season, held on Friday, Dec. 3, beginning at 5 p.m. This event is free to the public.

Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra “A New World Holiday” Concert

Music Director Adam C. Riccinto and the Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra will showcase a “New World Holiday” at the Lincoln High School Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 3:30 p.m. This is a family-friendly holiday concert featuring Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” accompanied by A Christmas Festival by Leroy Anderson, and music from the film The Polar Express. A unique rendition musical version of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas will also be shown. Tickets can be purchased at https://a2tix.com/.

Artisan Holiday Market Night

Stone & Spoon will host an Artisan Holiday Market Friday, Dec. 10, in the gallery above the store from 5 to 7 p.m, located at 110 W. Michigan Ave. The holiday market features the works of five local artists. In addition, handmade goods such as tiny artwork, macrame pieces, hand-crafted pieces, earrings through woodworking, and nature and spirituality-inspired gifts will be available for purchase. Masks are required for this event.

Boylesque Presents: Drag Bingo with Trinity K. Bonet

Join Boylesque Drag and Ru Paul’s Drag Race All-Star Trinity K. Bonet in this 18+ only event at Aubree’s Saloon/Sticks on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 7 to 10 p.m. Limited tickets include three games of bingo and performances. Table service will also be available for an additional charge. This event costs $30 to attend, and a portion of the proceeds will go directly to Coats for Kids.

Holiday Candlelight Concert

The Holiday Candlelight Concert titled "Alleluia" consists of EMU students, EMU faculty, and Ypsilanti and community members creating a music collection amid the season’s celebration. Music featured is composed of chorus, trumpet, guitar, and modern dance. This event will be hosted in Pease Auditorium on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 7:30- 8:45 p.m. This is a development event for the EMU choral department to help raise funds for choral students. Tickets are required to attend and can be found at eventbrite.com.

Holiday Open House

A community Holiday Open House will take place on Saturday, Dec. 12. The event will be located at The Riverside Arts Center, where the community can shop artisan goods, take pictures with live reindeer, snack from food trucks, and purchase new Christmas wreaths. There will also be children’s make and take activities and gingerbread houses. The event will also receive a visit from the Ypsilanti Police Department. This event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to the public.

Ypsilanti Holiday Extravaganza

Community organizers have planned the first annual Ypsilanti Holiday Extravaganza. On Dec. 18 and 19, the event will host craft vendors, makers, holiday cookie bakers, and more. The items sold are homemade products created by more than 30 Ypsilanti-based artisans. The event will be held at the Ypsilanti Freighthouse in Depot Town with live music from the Ypsilanti Community High School Choir and Holmes Blue Grizzlies Choir. The event is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19, and is free to attend.
