Echo Forward crowdfunding campaign launches to help move The Echo into the future of journalism

EMU's student media board are focused on taking the news operation into the 22nd century.

As part of The Eastern Echo’s goals for 2022, the team wants to modernize its website and print, as well as focus more on our digital offerings. This will include more podcasts, along with an increased amount of social media interaction and more multimedia news coverage overall.

Just in time for Giving Tuesday, Echo Forward was launched as a crowdfunding campaign to help with future digital news coverage, and is designed to help propel The Echo into the future of journalism.

Ideally, the team wants to create a small podcasting and digital media studio in the Echo offices in King Hall on campus, to increase its production of digital news. While The Echo already produces a news podcast, an investment in updated equipment would drastically help to move us to the next level. The digital presence, podcasting, video production, and infographics will help broaden our audience base, engage greater participation in journalism, and deepen news consumption by Generation Z.

EMU’s student media team are focused on taking the news operation into the 22nd century, with an emphasis on multimedia delivery and good old-fashioned, strong reporting tools. Journalism is changing, but the work journalists produce is as necessary as ever. Using multimedia delivery will keep The Echo relevant to the community, both on Eastern’s campus and in the City of Ypsilanti, the audience we have been serving for 140 years.

Your generous donation will help us produce quality journalistic content in an up-to-date format that interests and benefits younger audiences, trains the next generation of journalists with multimedia skills, and moves the Eastern Echo forward to the next century!

Anyone who would like to donate to the campaign, can find more information on the website for the Eastern Michigan University Foundation.
