10 Halloween events in Ypsilanti to put you in the spooky spirit

There are several Halloween fesitvites to choose from this year. From fairs, to shows and pumpkin carving events.

As Halloween comes closer there are plenty of spooky things to do all around Ypsilanti, Michigan. From tricks & treats to spooky scares, Ypsilanti’s got residents covered in regards to Halloween fun.

Wiard’s County Fair 

The fair offers a light start into the Halloween season and goes through the end of the month to Oct. 31. The fair, located at 5565 Merrit Road, is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Activities range from corn mazes to picking pumpkins, with plenty of delicious treats. Weekday tickets are $16 a person and weekend tickets are $21.25 a person, with group bundles available. All tickets are only available for purchase online.

The Holy Bones Festival & Halloween Market

The Holy Bones festival will take place at the Ypsilanti Performance space at 218 N. Adams St., on Oct. 16 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. The festival has all things from live performances to food trucks and an artist market featuring over 40 local vendors. Tickets are $6.66 online or $10 at the door, and 100% of the ticket proceeds go to the restoration of the venue.

Holy Bones Improv Show

The improv show will be at the Ypsilanti Performance space, 218 N Adams St. on Oct.16 from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This improvised comedy show features three local troupes: Weird Animal facts, Ghouls, and Finance Camp. This is a separate event from The Holy Bones Festival and the tickets are $10 online or $15 at the door.

Halloween Drag Brunch

The Halloween Drag Brunch, at Sidetrack Bar & Grill, 56 E. Cross St., will take place on Oct. 17 from noon to 3 p.m. An all-ages drag show that acts as a fundraiser for Dawn Farm. Dawn Farm helps addicts and alcoholics with services for long-term recovery. Tickets are on sale now for $12 online, brunch is not included, but food and drink will be available with table service.

Michigans Haunted Thrill Park

This night park offers five scary attractions in one location at Wiard’s Orchard, 5565 Merrit Road. The haunted thrill park will open on Oct. 18, running Friday through Sunday, from 7:15 p.m. 11:30 p.m. The attractions include The Ultimate Haunted Barn, The MindShaft, The Asylum, Hayride of the Lost, and Alien Caged Clowns. Tickets range from $19 to $52, and are only available to purchase online.

EMU Halloweekends

Campus Life is taking students to Cedar Point for Halloweekends on Oct.24. Halloweekends features live entertainment, Haunted mazes, and scare zones with the usual Cedar Point experiences. Tickets are $35 for students and go on sale on Oct.13 and are first come first serve.

Pumpkin Carving Event 

The Student Center and Campus Life are collaborating to host a pumpkin carving event on Oct.27. The event will take place at the student center from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Women’s Resource Center, LGBT Resource Center, and Campus Life are doing an interactive showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Oct.28. It will take place in Pease Auditorium at 7 p.m. and will have different interactive elements.

Campus Life Friday Movie Night Series

Campus Life is hosting a double feature of Hocus Pocus and Beetlejuice on Oct.29. The showing will be outdoors and the location will be announced on their Instagram story at, emucampuslife, in the upcoming weeks.

All Hallows Illumination of Frog Island

Wrap up the spooky season on Nov.1, at Frog Island Park, 699 Rice St., where the city will be lighting up the park. Bring carved and lit-up pumpkins to help light up the island. This event is free to the public.
