Eastern Michigan University’s Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honors Society in Education, is hosting a book drive and a virtual book fair during March, National Reading Month.
This is KDP’s first year holding the book drive, which they have titled the “Celebration of Teaching Event.” The drive is being held throughout the months of March and April.
The donations will be accepted for teachers and classrooms all within the Ypsilanti community, that are in need of more books for their classroom’s library.
“We’re going to collect everything and then over the Summer, we are going to see what books they want to use or pass it along,“ Thomas Stanley, EMU’s Chapter President, said. "Our goal is to help build classroom libraries for teachers so kids have books outside of their regular library."
Due to COVID-19, there is not a specific location on campus where books can be dropped off. To set up a date, time, and location to complete a book donation, emails can be sent to kdpemu@gmail.com.
KDP collaborated with Scholastic Books for their annual virtual book fair, which will be held online until March 25. This fundraiser that helps support the chapter members and EMU’s campus community.
“Reading has always been important, but it is especially necessary right now because we all spend so much time on screens as we continue in virtual school,” Lauren Alexander, a Historian for EMU’s KDP, said. “The book fair is a great way to purchase a book for yourself or someone in your life- books make great gifts, & you would be supporting an incredible organization.”
Books purchased through the Virtual Book Fair will be shipped directly to the purchaser’s home. To browse the catalog, visit this link or scan the QR code provided in KDP’s flyers.
Updates on these two events or more information about KDP can be found on KDP’s Website and Instagram.
