Singer/songwriter Emily Li, also known as Emili, released a single titled “Better” on Friday, Oct 2. It seems as though the pandemic has kept this budding artist busy. You may recall I reviewed her first song release back in May. Since then, she has released seven new songs, including “Better”. Each release has continued to grow more and more touching, and I’m excited to be able to showcase this new piece.
This new release is slow and beautiful. It’s so raw and full of emotion. There’s nothing like a love song to put you in the mood for fall and this is a refreshing take on the age-old format of a love song. The instrumental is simple, yet wonderful. Only acoustic guitar and piano back up the vocals, but the smooth sound is lovely and pleasing to the ears. They leave room for her voice to come out to play.
Not to mention the vocals on this track are absolutely lovely in and of themselves. Emili’s voice is soft and wonderful to listen to while also being powerful and moving. Her vocals give the song its dynamics and flow, and they go perfectly with the simplistic instrumental. They take a back seat, really allowing her voice to show its true colors in its purest form.
This song flows easily and is incredibly dynamic. It’s like you can feel your head moving through the music itself. It feels like a dance, one where your head is just floating. As the song says, “two are better than one”, and it creates a perfect image in your head of a couple glued together in a trance. I can see this song being played at any wedding easily. It works perfectly and is sure to keep any audience entranced. There is pure, raw emotion dripping through every crack of every measure of this song.
We all know the feeling of longingly loving someone and this song encompasses that feeling in a way words can’t. It feels like a warm hug on a cold night. The cover art of the single shows a couple together as well just enjoying their time together, maybe even a bride and groom. It’s rejuvenating and comforting. I will definitely be adding this to several playlists from here on out. I could leave it on loop all day and never get tired of listening to it.
Emili has already outdone herself several times over. This may be one of my new favorite love songs ever. I genuinely adore this single and I cannot stress that enough. “Better” is available on most major music streaming platforms now. I highly recommend you give this song a listen for yourself and see what a talent Emili is.
