Four empowering songs to help you regain sanity through the world’s current state of madness

I've picked out four tracks sung by strong women, that can help anyone find strength in these difficult times.

2020 has not been a great year for most people, and the world has now seemingly come to a stand still of weird emotions and occurrences. Throughout this, it is sometimes hard to feel sane and stay in a happy place. While some music is made to simply get lit to or keep you sad,  now is the time to calm yourself. Lately, I have listened to some amazing female artists that have made me feel empowered and peaceful even during the most unsettling times. Here are four of my favorite tracks as of late:

“Daisy” - Ashnikko: This new single for this eccentric artist’s upcoming debut album is upbeat and fun, making you feel like no one can tear you down. Ashnikko is a true badass woman and does not let anyone stop her from being herself. Her weirdness makes her unique when compared to any other artist and is a fresh breath of air from the often repetitive music industry. All of her music will help you feel liberated and strong.

“My Own Company” - Dounia: While this song is from 2019, I just recently discovered it and haven’t stopped playing it since. The underrated Morrocan R&B singer talks about being content with herself, which is something that everyone should learn to feel if they don’t already. Every lyric of this song is amazing, so I can’t even choose one to put in this article, but go take a listen for yourself. Both the words and the sound of this tune are calming and empowering, perfect to listen to if you’re feeling down.

“Rascal (Superstar)” - Tinashe: This artist uses an alter ego to display her true star persona on this new single. Bringing powerful positive vibes, this side of her supposedly attributed to her shelved project NASHE talks about making money, being successful, and having fun.

“I'm a superstar, b*tch / I just pour the cup, b*tch / Fly out in the morning / I'ma be exhausted,” she sings. “Money, cash, clothes, fast cars / Fast lane, dash playin’ with the Nascars.”

Not only did Tinashe show her versatility with the song’s sound and words, but with the unique music video as well. The visual was quarantine inspired and was made to display the surreal state that everyone is living in, that could be made even harder or unusual if you are a social person or public figure. In the video, Tinashe’s only companion is her drone and her only link to the outside world is streaming to her fans through every moment.

While her home is full of bright colors and lively clothes, the reality of life is shown as dark and twisted. The energy and vibes of this release are unlike any other and show the variety of talent that this musician holds.

“I’m Not In Love” - Kelsey Lu: Bringing a much slower tempo, this experimental seven-minute long track is beautifully written and well done. It’s the perfect chill ballad to bring you down to earth and make you feel more level headed. With few lyrics and enchanting instrumentals, the overall feeling and meaning from this track go a long way. It also ends with a super important message: “Don’t let somebody else’s problems become yours.”

All of these songs are written and sung by strong, independent women, and are sure to put you in a better mood. The craziness and dramatic changes occurring day to day can be super stressful, but listening to chill, positive music is a perfect way to bring back your sanity.
