#3 Overall Pick: Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State
Caleb’s Grade: A
“I think this is a great pick. Okudah is a top 5 player in this draft. . . With the Lions trading Darius Slay a couple months ago for peanuts, the Lions really needed someone to really bolster their secondary.”
Luke’s Grade: less than A
“I think he’s a really good player - fantastic. But is he really worth the third overall pick?. . . He’d better beat Jalen Ramsey, because if you’re the third overall pick, you’d better be potentially Rookie of the Year."
#35 Overall Pick: D’Andre Swift, RB, Georgia
Caleb’s Grade: B+
“I would have liked to see the Lions address their defensive line issues with this pick instead of taking a running back, but Swift is still an exceptional player."
Luke’s Grade: A+
“This pick starts to give me hope for the Lions again! This was a fantastic pick.“
#67 Overall Pick: Julian Okwara, LB, Notre Dame
Caleb’s Grade: B
“I think he was the best pick to take there, but at the same time, at this point in the draft, I was like, ‘When are they gonna take a defensive lineman?'“
Luke’s Grade: N/A
“I don’t have that much to say about Okwara. I’m not gonna say anything about the pick if I don’t know anything about him.“
#75 Overall Pick: Jonah Jackson, G, Ohio State
Caleb’s Grade: B
“The Lions have been known for having an abysmal run game. . . I think Jackson fills that hole."
Luke ‘s Grade: B
"I don’t have an eye for offensive linemen, but I do think that protecting their most valuable asset in Matthew Stafford is the way to go."
#109 Overall Pick: John Simpson, G, Clemson
Caleb’s Grade: B
“Not much to say about this pick. It’s very similar to the last one. They’re grabbing a talented offensive lineman from a very talented program.“
Luke’s Grade: B
“I think he’s good, and I think it’s a smart idea to invest in the O-line."
#121 Overall Pick: Logan Stenburg, G, Kentucky
Caleb’s Grade: C
"Going three offensive linemen in a row, especially when the third one isn’t as talented as the other two, I think they could have went D-tackle here or filled anther need like wide receiver."
Luke’s Grade: *shrug*
"This draft is not strong in defensive linemen. Do I think selecting three guards in a row is a smart strategy? I’m not sure, but I do know that a lot of draft capital on interior defensive lineman is not a good idea unless they’re Clowney."
#166 Overall Pick: Quintez Cephus, WR, Wisconson
Caleb: C+ to B-
“The Lions already have good receiving core of Golladay, Marvin Jones, and Hawkinson. So I don’t think Cephus will see the field that much. . . He might work out, he might not, but it’s not bad for this late in the draft."
Luke’s Grade: B-
“I think that taking a shot to a player that other people overlook can be a shrewd move. . . After this year, we’re going to have to rebuild our wide receivers.”
#172 Overall Pick: Jason Huntley, RB, New Mexico State
Caleb’s Grade: D-
“I don’t think you needed to take a running back here. I think they could have, like I said, defensive tackle, maybe go for an end. . . This just seemed like a waste of a pick to me.“
Luke Grade: N/A
“When it come to picks right here, we don’t really know that much about the kids. So I’m hesitant to say, ‘Wow, this sucks.‘"
#197 Overall Pick: John Penisini, DT, Utah
Caleb’s Grade: B
“At least they took something they needed. If they got out of this draft without taking a defensive tackle, I would have said that I’m not very happy. But they got one."
Luke’s Grade: B
“I agree with you. . . I think what they’re gonna look to do is sign some defensive linemen in free agency."
#235 Overall Pick: Jashon Cornell, DE Ohio State
Caleb: B-
“The Lions definitely upgraded their defense throughout this draft, and I think Cornell will be eager to play with Okudah. They played on the same defense last year, and that’ll be really good to have that bond already between the two of them."
Luke: B-
“Can’t argue with that!“
