"The Holiday" is a charming movie worth putting on anytime of the year

This film is sweet and wonderful. The cast and script are a delight.

The holiday season may be over, but that doesn’t mean a person can’t still enjoy a classic holiday movie. My favorite movie of all-time happens to be “The Holiday.”

The movie stars Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black. These characters are relatable and the casting was perfect.

Cameron Diaz is not one of my favorite actresses, but I love her in this role. She is quirky, funny, and just trying to find herself after being a workaholic and going through a difficult break-up. The four main characters in the film are trying to find a piece of themselves that they’ve lost.

Diaz and Winslet sign-up online for a home exchange because they need a break from their lives. Diaz finds her love interest in Law’s character Graham and Winslet finds her love interest in Black’s character Miles.

One of my favorite things about this film is the attention to detail. Everything down to the home décor and what books the character has on their nightstand, is chosen to reflect who the character is as a person. Diaz’s character Amanda has a gorgeous mansion. The mansion is wonderful, but so is Winslet’s character Iris’s quaint little cottage, which seems straight-out of a fairytale.

Graham is charming and sweet. He is the perfect kind of guy for a woman who has become cynical about love and life. Amanda and Graham can’t stop falling in love with each other. Amanda wants to make excuses, but her heart won’t let her stop pursuing him.

Iris and Miles go on a rollercoaster of a journey. It’s incredible to see how their romance plays out. Iris is a kind woman and Miles is so heartfelt that he doesn’t know what to do with himself.

Eli Walach plays the character of Arthur. He is a wonderful and needed addition to the cast and the story. Iris and Arthur help each other and some of the best lines of the film come from him.

Arthur and Iris are out to dinner when he says one of the best lines of the movie.

“He let you go,” said Arthur. “This is not a hard one to figure out. Iris, in the movies we have leading ladies and we have the best friend. You, I can tell are a leading lady, but for some reason you are behaving like the best friend.”

Another great line comes from Graham.

“I’m a full-time dad,” said Graham. “I’m a working parent. I’m a mother and a father. I’m the guy who reads parenting books and cookbooks before I go to sleep. I spend my weekends buying tutus. I’m learning to sew. I’m Mr. Napkin head.”

If you need a fabulous, heart-warming movie to watch, look no further than “The Holiday.” It’s one of the best romantic comedies I’ve ever seen with an attention to detail rarely found in that genre.
