A Star Is Born

Review: ‘A Star Is Born’ (2018) is authentic and tear-jerking in theaters and at home

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper ooze chemistry right through the screen in this dazzling remake of “A Star Is Born.”

If I could describe the masterpiece “A Star is Born” in one word, it would be “phenomenal.” This movie was amazing from start to finish. From Lady Gaga’s performance to Bradley Cooper’s, it was a complete masterpiece.

I never thought I would see this particular role from Lady Gaga, but she proved she is a triple threat. Her acting skills were one of the best parts of the film. She plays a struggling but talented girl who meets a superstar who changes her life forever.

The film felt authentic and raw. It was almost as if rather than watching a movie, the audience was peeking in on someone else’s life, making the viewing experience that much better.

We are introduced to the main character Ally and her wonderful voice within the first 10 minutes in an aesthetically pleasing opening and title sequence. We are also introduced to the well-known superstar Jackson Maine, who is clearly struggling with a drinking problem. Both characters are searching for something in a world where they feel disadvantaged or lost, and they find it in one another. Many issues arise, especially the drinking problem, and are addressed as the film goes on.

When the two protagonists meet, it is like love at first voice as Jackson hears Ally belt out a rendition of “La Vie en rose.” He couldn’t help but fall for her. This feeling is mutual and Ally goes as far as punching a guy to defend him on the first night of meeting – talk about love! After that encounter, he listens to her singing, falls in love with her voice and wants to push her to become the star she is.

The chemistry of Jackson and Ally is amazing, and you truly see their love for each other. The ending is enough to make anyone cry both in the theater and at home. Another strong point is the soundtrack, which is just as amazing as the acting.

The movie also stars Dave Chappelle, Sam Elliott and Anthony Ramos of Netflix’s “She’s Gonna Have It.” Believe me, this is one to see. Make sure you bring a box of tissues because the ending is designed to have you crying like a baby. This movie will be recognized for years to come by fellow movie lovers as an opportunity to be taken behind the scenes and see how this star was truly born.
