The Office of the Ombuds official office

EMU Office of the Ombuds present to Student Government

The Office of the Ombuds was introduced as a help center that Student Government can send individuals seeking assistance for guidance on various concerns.

The Office of the Ombuds is a resource for students, faculty, staff and administration on campus that deals with any type of conflict and need guidance.

Director of the Office of the Ombuds, Julia Heck, came to the Student Government meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24 as a guest speaker to bring this resource to the senators’ attention.

Heck wanted to make Student Government aware of this resource so that the senators can direct students to the Office of the Ombuds when needed.

“We serve as a neutral and confidential resource to students really in navigating conflict,” Heck said. “Anything that relates to Eastern, students can come seek help from our office where we’ll talk about what problems, concerns, issues or complaints they’re experiencing. [We want to] be able to try and figure out [if there are] policies or processes that work to address that concern or issue, [and] how can we get them connected to the right campus resources.”

Heck hopes that more people at EMU will take advantage of what the office has to offer by bringing the resource to Student Government’s attention.

The Office of the Ombuds is located in Room 248 in the Student Center. Ombuds can also be reached by email: emu_ombuds@emich.edu, or by phone number: (734)487-0074. More information can be found on the website: emich.edu/ombuds.
