EMU defensive back added to Wuerffel Trophy watch list

The Wuerffel Trophy is an award given for community service and academic achievement.

Senior defensive back, Brody Hoying was named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list presented by the Chick-fil-A Foundation, per EMU Athletics. The list mostly consists of conferences from the Football Bowl Subdivision. Hoying is one of 91 players from FBS who was named to the list.

The Wuerffel Trophy is named after 1996 Heisman Quarterback Danny Wuerffel who formerly played at the University of Florida. The award is presented every February and it acknowledges the FBS player who excels best at community service as well as athletic and academic achievements.

Hoying has made plenty of athletic and academic achievements during his career.

The senior defensive back is a three-time academic All-MAC selection and two-time All-MAC honoree. He also earned the MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete award. Hoying recorded 69 tackles last season which was the fifth most by an Eagles player and the 29th most in the conference. He earned third-team All-MAC recognition.

Hoying is one of seven players from the MAC to be added to the list. The players are selected by their respective universities Sport Information Departments. The selection will close on Oct. 15th. The semifinalists will be announced Nov. 5th and the finalists will be announced on Nov. 18th. The 2019 recipient will be announced on Dec. 10th.
