The City of Ypsilanti was awarded its fourth Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting at the July 2 city council meeting. It was presented on behalf of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
“Whenever people want to claim that our city is badly managed, I cite often the significant number of awards our finance department has earned for the city with their hard word, dedication and fierce dedication to detail,” Mayor Beth Bashert said.
Finance Director Rhegan Basabica presented the award to city council along with a short video featuring Chris Morrill, GFOA's executive director.
“The purpose of this award program is the encourage and assist governments to prepare comprehensive and understandable budget documents to improve transparency and trust in government,” Morrill said. “The City of Ypsilanti met demanding program criteria. Such a record reflects professionalism, commitment and dedication of your organizations leaders.”
Award winners are selected based on their comprehensive annual financial report, a set of financial statements they’re required to submit every year.
Ypsilanti was one of 65 municipality’s to win the award last year.
