Ryan Duffy is a spokesperson with Enbridge, the company that owns Enbridge Line 5.
I respect that people are passionate about the environment. As Earth Day nears, I want to add my voice to the mix.
As spring eventually starts to relieve winter’s hold, we’ll be reminded of how much of our life centers on the Great Lakes. All of us who live in Michigan treasure our waterways.
Enbridge’s Line 5 is essential to everyday life here. And Enbridge is choosing to invest more than $500 million to build a tunnel to house a new Line 5. Our homes, our businesses, our careers – the energy that Line 5 provides drives nearly every aspect of our lives.
It reflects that Enbridge understands the importance of preserving the quality of our beautiful region. We have committed to making “a safe pipeline even safer” with a tunnel that virtually eliminates the chance of a release of product.
With a new tunnel, Enbridge proactively is protecting our waterways. We are upholding the integrity of our pipelines and enhancing environmental safeguards; providing the convenience of energy that we use every day — and often take for granted.
Let’s not take for granted that a tunnel to house a new Line 5 plays a pivotal role in creating a safer, sustainable future for Michigan. It is a great way to celebrate Earth Day.
