Welcome back, my fellow Eagles. For the first segment of the Eagle Kitchen this semester we are going to create a homemade pizza and then give you a similar recipe you can create in your dorm, because we all know that as college students we need more ways to survive on pizza. If you live in the dorms and want to try out this homemade pizza recipe, visit the front desk of your dorm they will have the baking sheets that you need.
Ingredients
1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1-1/4 cups warm water (110° to 115°)
1/4 cup canola oil
1 teaspoon salt
3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
3 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
Toppings of choice
Directions
1. In a large bowl dissolve yeast and sugar into water, and let stand for 5 minutes. Add oil and salt, then stir in flour a cup at at time until a soft dough forms.
2. Flip bowl onto a floured surface and knead the dough until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes or until doubled in size. Meanwhile prepare any toppings that may need to be precooked, such as fresh sausage or bacon and drain any grease from meat.
3. Punch down dough to remove any air bubbles that have formed while rising and divide in half. Press each onto a greased 12 inch pizza pan. Combine tomato sauce, oregano, and basil, then spread over each crust. Top with cheese and any topping of your choice.
4. Bake at 400 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until crust is lightly browned.
