Eastern Michigan’s women’s soccer team continued their winning ways with a victory over Illinois-Chicago on September 9th, by a final score of 2-1. The win marks the teams 4th on the season and their third win straight. The two teams battled back and forth throughout the first half of the match. It wasn’t until the 35th minute that EMU would break the 0-0 tie with a goal of their own. Kirstin Nason of the Eagles scored on a takeaway in the Illinois-Chicago box that she rocketed into the left side of the net for her second goal on the season.
Eastern’s lead didn’t last long however as UIC countered with a goal of their own in the 39th minute to tie the game at one goal a piece. The score would stay tied as the two teams headed into halftime. Nearly forty minutes of gametime passed before another goal was scored. Both teams defenses smothered the ball, refusing to let go of the tie.
In the 85th minute Parys Kerr scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Lindsey Shira. Shira fed the ball into the right side of the box and Kerr put it in the net, giving EMU a 2-1 lead. Unlike the first goal, this lead carried all the way through the final whistle as EMU won the match by the final score of 2-1.
Only two games remain for the Eagles before conference play begins. The team now travels east for a pair of games on the east coast. EMU first takes on the University of Connecticut on Friday, September 14th before traveling to take on the University of Massachusetts on Sunday, September 16th.
