Eagles claim match in three straight sets against Western Michigan Volleyball

Eastern Michigan’s women’s volleyball team took to the court Nov. 3 at the Convocation Center for a matchup against in-state rival Western Michigan. Despite coming into the match with a worse record compared to the Broncos, Eastern took the match in a 3-0 sweep. The victory marks the 12th victory on the season for the Eagles and the fourth victory in-conference.

Eastern claimed the match in three straight sets. In the first, Eastern went on a nine-point run giving them a 21-15 lead before Western Michigan would call for a timeout. Despite the stoppage in play, the Eagles carried their momentum to the finish line for the first set, winning by a final score of 25-18. Set two turned out to be much more competitive than the first. The Eagles and Broncos went back and forth until the score was 22-22. Western took the lead 23-22 but Eastern went on to score three straight points. Eastern capped off the set with a kill from kill leader from the match Jordan Smith. In set three, Western struck first before Eastern could go on a six point run. Eastern never looked back from here, leading wire to wire in the set and secured the set and match victory, 25-14. Mallory Rajewski delivered an extremely impressive individual performance on the match supplying 30 assists on the team’s way to victory.

With the conference tournament looming, it is a huge opportunity for the Eagles to build on their success and carry it into the last few matches of the regular season. Eastern takes on Northern Illinois at home, Nov. 4 before taking to the road again for the last two matches of the regular season.
